Location and Size of New Press Hall*

 

  • Several Parcels of Land will be Purchased on the block bounded by East First, Stevens, East Second and Wallenberg Streets.

  • The new "Press Hall" facility will encompass approximately 45,000 square feet

  • Replace equipment built more than 40 years ago
  • Replace letterpress equipment that is one of very few remaining in the United States
  • Will modernize production and technological capabilities to serve current print readership
  • Will allow the Journal to meet modern requirements for quantity and quality of printing, control, digital communication, and increase energy efficiency
  • Will provide better quality to necessitate the use of sophisticated front-end imaging processes
  • Will meet space needs for newspaper production, circulation, and distribution needs

  • Reuse land that is currently vacated
  • Reuse land that has the stigma of being contaminated or merely perceived as being contaminated, in this case the land is considered "Functionally Obsolete" or "unable to be used to adequately perform the function for which it was intended"
