Background Information

The existing Courthouse was built in 1926. It is constructed of quality building materials including Indiana limestone, granite, marble and black walnut. The Genesee County Board of Commissioners has committed substantial resources to improve the facility and restore some appointments to their original splendor.  It is expected that private contributions may be utilized for some aspects of the historical restoration.

The Courthouse Square Project is the largest building project undertaken by the Genesee County Board of Commissioners involving the court system. The overall plan is to add a 60,000 square foot addition to the historic Genesee County Courthouse. This will allow for all divisions of the Circuit and Probate Courts to be united in one facility.
